What are the upcoming activities?
See the calendar or schedule of events which contains a list of pack activities.
Please note:The schedule is subject to change, so please bookmark it and check it regularly. Also, our calendar/schedule is password protected for privacy.
When and where are the planning/leadership meetings?
The pack leaders (Akela) meet monthly on the last Wednesday of the month, usually at Batavia City Hall.
The planning/leadership meeting is open to all interested adults. It's a good way to learn about pack planning, to volunteer, to make suggestions or voice your concerns.
How does the pack communicate with parents and guardians?
We use Google Groups to distribute email to our mailing list. To protect privacy, our email list is not public - you have to be in the list to send or receive pack email. This policy also avoids unwanted spam in the event undesirable email was sent to the pack email list.
How do I get added to the mailing list?
You can subscribe by sending an empty email to batavia-pack-112+subscribe@googlegroups.com or the web master: webmaster@bataviapack112.org After we determine you have a legitimate reason (you are the parent or legal guardian of the scout, for example), we'll add you to the list and you will begin receiving pack email.
How do I send email to the pack?
Once you've been added to the pack email list, simply send mail to batavia-pack-112@googlegroups.com
Why am I having trouble sending email to the pack?
As we said above, our pack email list is protected, so it's possible that you're not subscribed. See "How do I get added to the mailing list?" or "But I receive pack email, so why can't I still send email?"
But I receive pack email, so why can't I still send email?
In this case, it's possible that you're trying to send email from a different email account than the account we're sending your pack email to. Please forward the rejection to the web master: webmaster@bataviapack112.org and we can figure it out.
Why is selling popcorn so important?
Selling popcorn is the main fundraiser for the pack. The pack receives about $0.30 for every dollar of popcorn sold. The district and council each receive about $0.20.
The yearly dues paid for each scout only covers a small percentage of our total spending per scout. The pack pays for many different items that the scouts receive, as well as fees and activities:
- Pinewood derby car kits
- Pinewood derby trophies
- Rank patches, arrow points, pins
- Segment patches
- Belt loops
- Proud parent ribbons
- Overnight activity
- Rock climbing activity
- Hockey game event
- Eagle cave camping
- Summer camp
- Jonamac admission
- Blue & Gold banquet
- Leader training
- Registration fees
Who are the pack leaders?
See the leadership page with names and roles of the pack leadership.
How can I help?
We welcome and encourage everyone to take an active role in the pack.
Attend an Akela meeting and make a suggestion, let us know what we're doing right or what we can improve upon. If you have ideas to share, this is the best forum for discussion.
There are several open opportunities, spanning from a small commitment of time and effort to somewhat larger levels of volunteering:
- Treasurer (starting in Feb 2021)
Additions to the committee are always welcome.
What is the difference between a class "A" and class "B" uniform?
The class "A" uniform is the more formal uniform and consists of:
- Navy blue (Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, Webelos) or khaki (Webelos only) dress shirt with properly affixed insignia (council shoulder patch, pack number, den patch, American flag, rank and arrow points, etc.). See the uniform inspection sheet for a checklist for attire.
- Rank appropriate neckerchief.
- Optional rank appropriate neckerchief slide (neckerchief may be knotted instead of using a slide).
- Optional headgear (Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear or Webelos cap).
- Optional red "brag vest".
Pack 112 does not require the belt or navy blue pants.
The class "B" uniform is less formal and consists of:
- The red or blue T-shirt with "running with the pack" 112 graphic.
We organize a yearly class B uniform purchase opportunity. Adults may also purchase a class B uniform for themselves.
When should the class A uniform be worn vs. the class B?
The class A uniform is usually worn for:
- Pack meetings.
- Den meetings.
- Parades.
- Camp meals.
The class B uniform is usually worn for:
- Physical activities.
Pack email almost always indicates the required uniform type, but if in doubt, the class A uniform may be worn.
Just what exactly is an "Akela?"
Prounounced "ah-KAY-lah," an Akela is a leader. Besides the cub master, den leaders and other Khaki clad members, parents and guardians are also considered the be their scout's Akela.
