Guidelines and tips for selling popcorn

Before you leave

  • Wear your class A uniform.
  • Carry the new mobile App (with your parents) and an envelope for holding payments.
  • See the popcorn kernel for access if you don't have one.
  • Have some singles and a five dollar bill so you can make change.
  • Know your product, including the different items and their costs (the app has all of this).

Selling door-to-door

  • Always solicit with an adult.
  • Avoid walking on the homeowners lawn or through any landscaping.
  • Ring the doorbell just once, only knock if the doorbell isn't working.
  • Wait a reasonable amount of time for someone to answer before moving on.
  • Greet whomever answers the door with a smile and say:
"Hello, I'm a Cub Scout from pack 112. Would you like to buy popcorn to help support scouting?".
  • Never enter anyone's house.
  • If the person decides to buy some popcorn, please check the following in the app:
    • That they've filled in their name and address.
    • Entered the correct quantity of items in their respective columns.
    • Entered the correct amount of money due for all items ordered.
    • Payment by cash, check or credit card for the exact amount due.
    • It is recommended that you collect payment up-front (it's easier), but you may take the order and payment may be made when the product is delivered.
    • If paying by check, have the check made out to "Pack 112".
    • Check the "paid" column if payment is made up front.
  • You may accept a cash donation to the pack if it is offered.
  • Before leaving, regardless if the person doesn't wish to buy anything, always smile and say "Thank you".

Deliver your orders

  • Always deliver with an adult.
  • Wear your class A uniform.
  • Carry the app and an envelope for holding payments.
  • Greet whomever answers the door with a smile and say:
"Hello, I'm a Cub Scout from pack 112. I have your popcorn order".
  • If the order was not prepaid, collect the full amount due. Do not give the product until it has been paid for.
  • Check the following on your app:
    • Check the "paid" column if payment is made upon delivery.
    • Check the "delivered" column.
  • Before leaving, smile and say:"Thank you for supporting pack 112".

Selling online

You can go to Trail's End and set up an account and sell popcorn online. This allows your scout to sell popcorn to friends and family members who don't live nearby.

Trail's End will collect and deliver any online orders, but your scout and the pack get the same sales credits.

Table Sales

The pack sells popcorn on two weekends in two locations: Berkeleys Finer Foods and Walgreens Downtown Batavia. We have six 1-hour shifts each day at each location, for a total of 24 opportunities for your scout to sell popcorn via table sales.

We prefer to have at least two scouts and one adult for each 2-hour shift.

Scouts will get a fair percentage of credit for each shift worked based on the total sales for all four days and both locations. The more shifts worked, the greater the amount your scout can earn in credit. This means we do not track the sales based on shift or location – we total all sales and divide evenly.

The popcorn Kernel will ensure that enough product is on hand for sales, he will also provide an envelope with change.

The first shift will help set up the tables and popcorn display. The last shift will help tear down and clean up.
